Our calling to serve in the mission field in Belgium was a journey filled with faith and anticipation, but also met with unforeseen challenges. Although we were invited to support a church with a large community of Latin American immigrants and refugees, we soon discovered that the immigration process would be much more complex than we had anticipated, even for religious workers like us. Our hopes of staying long-term began to fade, and our concerns for the future, especially for our children, started to grow as the school year was about to begin.

When we shared our situation with the school authorities, they expressed concern about the educational stability of our children due to language barriers and the uncertainty surrounding our visas. Each week we learned it would be more complicated to settle down, as we did not have the legal documents required to rent a house, buy a car, or even have a cell phone plan. After weeks of prayer and discernment, along with our church missions team and the leadership of our organization, we had to decide that going to Mexico would be the best option while our documents were being processed. Although it was a painful decision, as we had witnessed the great spiritual need in the Belgian community, we believe that the Lord will guide us back to this field when the time is right.

In Mexico, we have found new opportunities for service. We are joining the work with migrants in a shelter in Mexico City and collaborating with our missionary organization (the Mexican branch) in the mobilization, sending, and care of Mexican missionaries, which is part of our vision, although we had expected to do this after gaining more experience. While the journey has been full of challenges, we trust that God continues to open doors and guide us according to His plan.
